THE CHALLENGE

An automotive remanufacturer and assembler of engine blocks was using an expensive rust inhibitor, requiring the engine blocks to be washed after application. This added about an hour of additional process time to each engine. Despite this additional step, they still struggled with their cast iron cylinder heads rusting between the machining and installation processes.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION

After becoming familiar with the problems they were facing, an Ashburn Solutions Engineer proposed they test Ashburn 3000RI in their process. Ashburn 3000RI is a heavy duty, multi-purpose, synthetic, water soluble rust and corrosion preventative designed to prevent rust on the machine tool and work piece. 3000RI was different from their existing product as they could let the product dry on the engine heads before installation, rather than having to waste valuable time washing every engine head after application.

THE RESULTS

Saved approximately $24,000 annually due to increased productivity. 
Ashburn protected production, productivity, and the bottom line. 

Allowing Ashburn 3000RI to dry on engine heads prior to installation provided additional rust protection and saved time by eliminating the need to wash parts after every application. The switch to 3000RI saved the customer approximately $2,000 a month ($24,000 a year) due to the products usage being more efficient and saving a significant amount of process time.
