A fastener and hardware manufacturer machining stainless and carbon steel started having issues with the cutting oil they had been using for 20 years. Ashburn Chemical was brought in to analyze the operation and recommend a solution.

THE CHALLENGE

Despite significant troubleshooting, they continued to struggle with poor surface finish and the development of burn marks on the cutting tools which resulted in frequent tool changes. These challenges lead to increased maintenance costs, downtime and loss of productivity. The manufacturer was not only seeking a reduction on costs, but also looking for a solution to improve surface finish on the finished parts without going through frequent tool changes.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION

Following a meeting with an Ashburn representative, the customer tested out VXT100 high performance cutting oil. VXT100 provides excellent lubricity which required fewer tool changes and improved surface finish on parts. VXT100 runs cleaner with lower misting properties resulting in the added benefit of less residue left on machines

THE RESULTS

After switching to the higher-quality VX100 cutting oil the customer saw a decrease in tooling spend, an increase of 250% in tool life, improved surface finish on final products and a cleaner machine. By choosing Ashburn VXT100 cutting oil they were able to achieve cost savings and improve finished product with higher customer satisfaction.
