Ashburn Chemical was brought in to analyze the operation and provide a product recommendation in a bearing and cylinder parts manufacturer, looking to improve process, reduce fluid usage, and lower costs.

THE CHALLENGE

A bearing and cylinder parts manufacturer, serving multiple industries, was having issues with their steel turning and milling process. Their incumbent fluid had
short sump life, high fluid usage and left work area and machine surfaces dirty.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION

Ashburn’s Solutions Engineer suggested that they test out Apex 7700EP in their process. Apex 7700EP is a heavy duty, semi-synthetic water soluble fluid formulated with
chlorinated EP (extreme pressure) additives for heavy duty operation. This clean fluid leaves no sticky deposits on the machine or parts and contains additional lubricity for extended tool life. It also includes our most advanced bio resistant additive technology to inhibit microbial growth.

THE RESULTS

Saved 20% on metalworking fluids and tripled tool life!

After running Apex 7700EP in their facility, the customer found that their machines were much cleaner, fluid usage was reduced significantly due to reduced drag out, while providing an extended tool life. In addition to the process improvements and tool savings, we found that they were also able to save 20% on their metalworking fluid expenses by switching to Apex 7700EP. Apex 7700EP achieved equal to or improved tool life over the incumbent fluid in all processes, however, in one particular turning insert test, Apex 7700EP was able to triple insert life!
